    Battery Back Up
Effective November 1, 2016, Arvig phone service for our customers will include the option to order a Battery Backup Unit (BBU), also known as an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). Electrical power is required for Arvig phone service to work in areas using a Multimedia Terminal Adapter (MTA) or Fiber to the Home (FTTH). If there is a commercial power outage, the service will not process calls, including those to 911 if you do not have the BBU installed. A BBU, with an active battery, will provide temporary backup power (up to eight hours) for the devices in your home that provide voice services, as well as access to dial Emergency 911. The BBU does not guarantee service if the network is not operating. A corded phone must be plugged into the phone connection in order to place a call when the BBU is installed. The BBU can be purchased from Arvig by calling 888.992.7844. If you would like Arvig to install the unit normal trip & time changes apply. You have the option of installing the BBU yourself. You are responsible for monitoring the status of the BBU and for ensuring that the battery is charging normally.
